An explosion at a Standard Oil refinery tank near El Segundo started an hours long oil fire. Twelve firemen treated for minor burns. damage estimated in the several hundred thousand dollars. Firemen blocked streets and cut power as the blaze spread before being confined after four hours.

Charles C. Joiner 26 of 331 South Maple street blamed a truck spotlight for a crash on Route 20 between here and Oberlin at 11:42 p m injuring him with a right leg fracture. Witness Albert Chiles of 223 State street saw the wreck. his car was demolished. Several other vehicles suffered damage on nearby roads as deputies investigated.
Detroit police detectives questioned a former UAW official in Flint, Michigan, as part of the search for the gunman who shot at Walter P Reuther. Marlon Butler, 37, former CAW International representative and anti-Reuther figure, was taken from his home but no charges were filed.
Dayton police hold Richard Stiver 26 of Conover Ohio a Johnsville New Lebanon High School teacher charged with contributing to the delinquency of minors and allowing two students to steal auto parts. Eight high school students were arrested as part of a theft ring. sheriff reports nearly $1000 in stolen accessories traced to the suspects.
