Fraud scheme leaves victims with erased life savings
A 69 year old retiree and his wife lost about 30000 to Zakarian who offered 12.5 percent returns and diverted client funds through self directed IRAs and promissory notes. Prosecutors say he then used Viewcrest and Ben Tax payroll schemes and charity grants to misappropriate funds totaling millions from private businesses and nonprofits.

Public restroom plan halted at Kopf Reservation amid fears
A local dispute over a $100,000 public restroom at the 162 acre Kopf Family Reservation sparked by residents worried about vandalism drugs and sexual incidents. Metro Parks director Jim Ziemnik says larger facilities would require grants and donations while studies on a nature center may proceed separately. Mayor Greg Zilka notes limited vandalism and no evidence restrooms trigger worse acts. Residents cite heavy trail use and potential benefits from a nature center as counterpoints. Contact Steve Fogarty for more details.
