Tornadoes kill four, injure thirty across three states

Up to fifteen twisters hit Alabama, eight struck Georgia, and unknown number touched South Carolina. A line of fierce storms spawned the tornadoes, producing kumquat-sized hail near the Georgia Alabama border and leaving four dead and at least thirty injured.

Air War Heats Up In Indochina As Missiles Fly

UPI reports a surge in the Indochina air war with North Vietnamese gunners firing seven anti aircraft missiles at U S Navy planes over North Vietnam and Laos. U S jets pursued a MIG21 back to its base inside North Vietnam and fired missiles in protective reaction. The day also saw the worst Indochina booby trap incident in over a year, killing seven American soldiers and wounding 12 when a 105 mm shell rigged as a land mine exploded southeast of Quang Ngai City. US forces from Americal Division’s 1st Brigade suffered the casualties. Navy jets and enemy SAM2 missiles engaged near Vinh and Ha Tinh as multiple SAM2 launches, radar lock-ons, and retaliatory fire occurred across Laos and coastal North Vietnam. One US plane was damaged. the rest returned safely.

Soviet Soyuz 10 tests docking with Salute space platform

Three cosmonauts Vladimir Shatalov Alexei Yeliseyev and Nikolai Rukavishnikov aboard Soyuz 10 join the unmanned Salute in orbit. Tass reports tests of docking undocking and radio communications during the 12th orbit of Soyuz 10 and 86th orbit of Salute with no clear confirmation of a hard link. Officials say both craft function well and the crew rests as maneuvers continue.
