Voters in Hite Tact and nearby precincts will be eligible to cast ballots on May 2 as polls open for the primary. Officials remind residents to bring valid identification and check registration status before voting.
Lorain County voters may cast in-person absentee ballots through May 1 at the Board of Elections on 1985 North Ridge Road E. Hours are 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekdays and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays, with special hours on April 30 and May 1. Polls open 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on May 2.
Joe Horvath of Amherst Township received the Lorain Veterans Council Veteran of the Year award at the Italian American Veterans Hall. Gino Manacci praised Horvath for his Vietnam War service, noting his humility and readiness to volunteer. Horvath earned multiple medals, including the Silver Star for a mission saving 29 men.
Elyria Lorain County Justice Center will reopen to the public Monday after fiber optic service was restored. Judge James Walther said repairs completed Friday ended a Thursday cut that disrupted internet, phones and fire alarms. Beginning Monday 7 a.m. eastbound Leo Bullocks Parkway will close for four weeks for Chessie CSX bridge deck reconstruction with Murray Ridge Road and Lowell Street as primary detours. westbound lanes reopen in about four weeks.
Lorain County Joint Vocational School to establish the Pam Faragher Culinary Scholarship after her death on January 22. A fundraiser is set for May 4 at the Oberlin campus with tickets $25 and donations welcomed to the Educational Foundation.
