City sues neighbor over lakefront land for boat launch
Sheffield Lake has filed a Common Pleas Court suit against Suzanne and Jeffrey Kocak to determine ownership of a small lakefront parcel west of the planned boat launch expansion. City officials say the land was dedicated as Sheffield Village Park in 1920 and now belongs to the city, while the Kocaks contend they own it and cite a 1980 ODNR permit for erosion protection upgrades. The project, valued at 1.4 million dollars, was reduced after ownership questions delayed permitting and the ODNR is still processing a submerged land lease to allow improvements on land currently underwater.
