Race in diabetes study roams Birmingham area children
Children from Birmingham area, including Javon e and Jamal Johnson, participate in a National Institutes of Health funded study named America led by UAB researchers to explore racial factors in childhood diabetes development. The project enrolls healthy children ages 7 to 12, tests 124 children, and offers gift certificates plus health information after a two week program. Researchers track glucose responses, exercise, environment, and access to health care to identify risk factors and potential prevention strategies.
