Lorain County funds approve detention home remodel plan

Homicide charge filed in Abbe Road crash

Alan Kalous 43 of Westlake was charged with aggravated vehicular homicide after a Sunday crash on North Abbe Road that killed 15 year old Elyria resident Gregory Madock. Kalous faces a May 6 preliminary hearing. He also faces a May 21 pretrial on a DUI count after posting bond.

Judge Allows Photo Use From 1984 Dodrill Raid

Lorain County Common Pleas Court ruled prosecutors may use photographs seized during a March 1984 raid on Steven Dodrill's Elyria home. Dodrill, 38, faces two counts of rape and one count of promoting prostitution tied to his Party Favors exotic dancing service. No trial date set. pre trial hearing planned.

Fire destroys garage in Elyria blaze

A Monday fire at 617 Dewey Ave in Elyria destroyed a garage and damaged two cars and a nearby house. The roof caved in after the blaze started when a motorcycle backfired, injuring no one. Solomon Ruffin, 50, owned the bike involved. The damage was estimated at $10,000.
