Iowa Farmers Divided Over Supports Test of Dawn in Iowa

Iowa appears about evenly split on rigid high price supports versus flexible price supports. An unofficial tabulation of letters to Sen. Guy M. Gillette shows a 50 50 division, with Ida County protest petition urging 90 percent parity supports from over 600 farmers. The Farm Bureau backs flexible supports, aligning with Eisenhower and Benson. Gillette avoids a firm stand, while Rep. Martin backs Bureau proposals. If Gillette supports 90 percent, a clear issue could emerge in November.
