Firemen Battle Two Grass Blazes in Eastern Heights
Eastern Heights saw two separate grass fires fought by local firemen. The first blaze on Cornell Avenue east of Garford Avenue burned 50 by 100 feet but caused no damage and was put out with brooms. April 20 Gambier Ohio. Quick actions by about 2009 Kenyon College students, Mt. Vernon firemen, and volunteers prevented wide destruction when a Knights of Pythias lodge fire spread from a restaurant and damaged Steyle's hotel and other buildings. Damage estimated at 450,000 with several injuries. Fire started by a cab driver alarm prompted dormitory evacuations and rapid response as wind shifted, helping fire crews contain the blaze and save key structures.

SYRALUSE SY April 20 4 triple slaying and a death by own action were discovered in a home here when poker investigated a tip that something apparently was wrong on the base. The body of Weather L Wainwright 61 was found hanging in a hallway of the house. The bodies of his three children Rosalind 11 Richard 9 and Jacqueline 4 were found in a nearby room. They had been poisoned clubbed and hanged. Letters police found in the house indicated Wainwright killed his children and then committed death by own action. The letters were addressed to Wainwrights wife the police the press and the public.

Miss Lucile Drew 25 daughter of Mr and Mrs Leroy Drew vanished Saturday after approaching Frank Barrs home and was later found dead in a 17 foot well behind Bairs residence by Deputy Sheriff Charles Vollmer after a county wide search. Authorities drained the well and recovered the body.

Elyria Man Found Dead In Garage By Asphyxiation
James Buckley a 48 year old resident of 124 Branston avenue was found dead in his garage around noon from asphyxiation. A garden hose connected from the car exhaust fed to his mouth. police report says depletion of gasoline stopped the engine. Buckley’s daughter Marian who lived with him found a note seeking forgiveness and called her uncle Buckley who located the body. Despondency is suspected. coroner Thomas A Peebles was summoned and the body taken to Welsh mortuary.
