A pain management seminar scheduled for Saturday at Southwest General Health Center in Middleburg Heights has been canceled. The daylong event was to run 8:30 am to 5 pm in the Williams Conference Center. For information call the hospital at 816-6811 and the Diabetes Association at 581-0800.
A 38 year old Lorain woman Joanne Rodriguez was released from Lorain County Jail due to an inmate cap. She and her 15 year old son faced charges of disorderly conduct and escape after a clash with police outside a school. Rodriguez pleaded not guilty at a Lorain Municipal Court hearing with a pretrial set for April 23.
LifeShare, a division of the Lorain County Blood Bank, signs an open-ended contract to process blood for Southwest General Health Center in Elyria and a 2 Middleburg Heights hospital. Spokespeople decline to estimate impact while noting LifeShare will act as a subcontractor handling donor collection, testing, screening, and processing before returning units to the hospital communities. LifeShare charges 60 to 350 dollars per pint and aims to process about 300 pints monthly for Southwest, after already handling about 100 pints monthly for St Luke's Medical Center in Cleveland.
ELYRIA Timms Spring Co hourly workers voted 84 to 41 to join the United Auto Workers. The plant with about 114 employees makes light stampings, springs and wire forms. Plant manager Marl Zonka unavailable for comment. The unit will affiliate with a local yet to be determined and contract talks may begin by late May.
