Panel favors current site for stadium
A civic committee recommended building a new football stadium on the Lake Erie shore at the site of 64 year old Cleveland Stadium likely to be demolished this year. Councilman Edward Rybka said a 60 acre Norfolk Southern owned site should be a backup if problems arise with the preferred site. The decision weighs downtown lakefront uses versus other development near the Gateway sports complex with a baseball park and an indoor arena.
