Vermilion Road Closure Sparks Local Business Worries

Brownhelm Township residents and nearby businesses fear a June 9 road closure on Vermilion Road to repair erosion will cut traffic and hurt sales. The $702000 project on a curved stretch near the Vermilion River Reservation will use heavy pylons and shift about 1200 feet of roadway, affecting Kreigs Market and Ice Cream, Aufdenkamp Family Farm, and Mill Hollow Nursery as summer traffic peaks. Farm owner Richard Aufdenkamp says many travelers stop at his eastward market when passing from the west, so closure could hurt business.
