Railroads intend to dismiss all rebel strikers as arrests of leaders in Chicago yesterday suggest a rapid end to the tie up. Arrested men were released on bail and promise to refrain from taking part in the strike while conditions in the East begin to clear up.
Federal action targets 25 strike leaders held on Lever Act charges as warnings spread through the West. Chicago yardmen and switchmen face payroll and wage tensions while traffic slowly improves amid the unrest. Haywood and Lundgren promote the one big union movement amid railroad labor turmoil.
New York April 16. Indica reports that the unauthorized rail strike nears an end as railroad officials and Brotherhood of Transportation officers declare the ultimatum set for Saturday to report for work a body blow to the trikers. Hoboken men and other strikers vote to stay loyal to unions and seek restoration of workers. May or Hague of Jersey City urged to influence roads to reinstate all striking crews. Other strikers expected to act today while leaders press return to work. Transportation conditions show gradual improvement as railroads report progress.
Cincinnati April 4 The railroad switchmen strike disrupted supply lines as Procter and Gamble suspended operations for lack of materials, signaling the first major impact on industry from the walkout.
Railroad yardmen form a new association as officials refuse to confer with the committee. They meet to discuss demand for higher pay causing hundreds of employees to idle.
Philadelphia April 16 reports say switchmen and yardmen agreed to return to work after accepting the railroad company's offer. Authorities and union reps worked to assure a prompt settlement, with workers instructed to resume duties and address grievances within the resumed operations.
The nine member railway labor board created by the transportation act met for the first time to organize and address railroad labor disputes. President Wilson’s nominations were confirmed amid partisan criticism as work stoppages continued nationwide and the board prepared to hear disputed demands.
Charles Woodward of Cleveland, assistant to the president of Hydraulic Pressed Steel, told a large Elyria Manufacturers Association gathering that labor harmony rests on the We not I. A Detroit family of four and a sister-in-law, stranded with seven dollars, received aid from township trustees and the court house. The mother and baby were placed with the Y W C A for temporary care, funds were raised at the courthouse, and arrangements were made to send the mother and baby to New York once travel is possible. The father plans to stay, find work, and support the family.
ML Gove of Cheapside dies after months with Brights disease. A 32 year city resident and founder of the first and ten cent stores, he built the Cheapside block bearing his name. He is survived by his wife and daughter, Sidney De LaVars. He asked for no funeral, body kept at home one day and buried at sunrise with only the undertaker present.
Harry Davis with baritone voice, famed from Legion Minstrels, will perform Saturday afternoon and evening at the Elyria Market and Storage Co. Carl Rudolph joins for the Tuesday Young Men's Business Club meeting at the Chamber of Commerce.

Results: Tabor Ice Cream Co 10 percent butter fat Tellins Bellemon Co 10 percent Richwine Ice Cream Co 10.5 percent Candyland 11 percent Paradise 18.5 percent Palace of Sweets 20 percent. A separate report notes a hunger strike begun in Mountry prison.
The city health department reports ongoing scarlet fever with containment due to quarantines. Cases on Dennison West Columbus Clark and Lewis Court. two small pox cases at 410 Broad and 417 Cleveland. a chicken pox case on Harvard. Unreported scarlet fever cases may lead to arrests.
Elmer H. Garrett, jeweler and optometrist of 342 Broad Street, has just received Ohio State Board of Optometry Certificate No 714 after passing the state board examination. Garrett is a graduate of the South Bend and Needles Institutes of Optometry.
The Tubize Company has purchased part of Dupont's powder plant at Hopewell near Petersburg. The European firm will install machinery for an artificial silk factory under a French patent. Capitalized at 7,000,000 dollars, it may employ 5,900 men and 2,000 women.
Theod ore N Vail chairman of the board of directors of the American Telephone and Telegraph company died at Johns Hopkins Hospital from a complication of circulatory and kidney troubles. He had retired as president last June and became chairman.
Washington reports arrests of John Grunau and twenty four other so called outlaw strike leaders as part of a broader push against I W W and Communist party organizers. DOJ agents pursue operatives in Cleveland Toledo Pittsburgh and other cities while Senator Pomerene cites paid agents behind the strike plot with meetings in Chicago and Readings Pennsylvania.
Car Associated Crissy Youngstown April 16 Police arrested two men here charged with the murder of Charles Sabo in Warren Ohio last night. Sabo was shot when he came to the door after a stone was thrown through his window. He had been married Monday and jealousy is believed to be the motive.
Major Jones presided this morning over the case of Benj Atkins charged with resisting an officer. Atkins parked in front of the Central bookstore and after initial compliance he refused to give his name. He was arrested and the mayor fined him five dollars and costs.
The General Phonograph Supply Co. laid off workers at Elyria's plant due to the switchmen's strike, planning four days of work next week and hoping to extend as long as possible. Other Elyria factories have not announced closures. Coal arrives for nearby plants, schools consider further closings, and rail traffic declines while farm markets surge on high produce prices and scarce potatoes.
A suitcase alleged to belong to Marty Miller, accused in the Frances South murder, was found in West Virginia hills across the river. Contents include a bloodstained shirt and handkerchief, plus a dark suit with a Ludwig Rees tag. Authorities plan to present the items to Miller in jail for identification.
Louis J. Llewellyn tenor, trained under Evan Williams, will perform with phonograph accompaniment at the M. E. Church Men's class Sunday morning. He will sing Open the Gates of the Temple in unison with a Williams record, closely following the music so listeners cannot tell if the instrument is reproducing or he is singing with it.

New York reports an upstate fox farm owner N. H. Bacon president of the New York For Auction Sales Corporation issued a call for mother cats to nurse six week old silver fox cubs. He said he would take all suitable cats offered and that a mother cat can earn $2.50 per week for six weeks as the litter matures to solid food.

Washington April 16 Members of the House rules committee considered a resolution by Representative Hoch Kansas seeking preliminary impeachment action against Assistant Secretary Louis Post of the labor department over his stance toward radicals arrested in raids. The measure was set to follow regular procedure after consultation with House leaders, with possible referral to the judiciary committee for an impeachment report if warranted.
In New York on April 16, women workers operate elevators across Wall Street skyscrapers to ease tenant commutes. At the Woolworth Building nearly all the elevators were run by women, allowing tenants to reach offices without walking.
