Oman Drilling Project Explores Carbon Capture From Mantle
In Oman’s al Hajjar Mountains geologists study peridotite rocks to trap carbon from air and water. Peter Kelemen and a 40 member team drill core samples to map how mantle rocks convert CO2 to carbonate and assess scalable methods for deep sea sequestration. NASA backs the $3.5 million Oman Drilling Project as they seek a practical path to reduce atmospheric CO2.
