The second Amtrak crash in a month at Conway Pennsylvania injures 21 travelers. The incident disrupts travel as responders aid injured aboard the wrecked coach and authorities investigate the cause.

Lorain police detective Joel Miller traced suspects at Irving Elementary School after an April 6 attack. Two boys aged 10 and 11 were arrested for delinquency by felonious assault in the beating of 9 year old Joshua Parker, who suffered a compound fracture wrist. Another boy questioned is not charged.
BEREA Ohio Turnpike officials say a planned interchange on state Route 58 is near reality. Alan Plain executive director of the Ohio Turnpike Commission said construction could start in late summer or early fall and the interchange could open in 2000. Officials delayed three years due to talk of a railroad through the site.
Avon City Council approved 312 apartments by Associated Estates Realty Corp on 39 acres at the northwest corner of Chester Road and Route 83 despite a potential rezoning to single family homes. Only Councilman David Kaiser dissented from the 4-1 vote.
Lorain council agrees to buy the former home and five acre King property on West Erie Avenue for 720000 to expand Lakeview Park. Sale requires land use as a public park and must close within 75 days of council vote with funding via notes or bonds. Councilman Dan Given calls it a major park system improvement.
