George Archer captures the 1960 Masters title finishing 281 after a final round of par 72. Tom Weiskopf George Knudson and Billy Casper trailed by one stroke. Casper faltered with five bogeys and three misses while Archer steadied with a crucial 12-foot par save on the 16th hole.
George Archer the Masters champion, nicknamed Cowboy for living on a cattle ranch, outwitted pursuers Tom Weiskopf Billy Casper George Knudson and Charlie Coody in a tense final round at Augusta. Coody faltered on Backnine Corral finishing bogeys. Knudson missed a tying 25 foot putt. Casper failed to hole a final chip. Weiskopf showcased length as the gun. Archer stressed careful scoring and memory of past rounds.
Reporter notes Archer’s sharp shot and calm humor as he defeats Long Tom in a tense finish. Archer claims no fixed strategy, only doing what’s needed, and rides off with $20,000 toward Rancho La Costa in California for more shooting later in the week.

Quebec Aces force game four with a 8-1 win over Cleveland Barons after trailing early. Garry Monahan opened scoring for Cleveland, then Quebec exploded with six unanswered goals as eight players contributed, Jim Morrison scoring twice. Game four set for Quebec on Tuesday. Providence Reds topple Baltimore Clippers 4-1 as Jean Mallette nets twice to cushion lead. series may end on Tuesday.
