Egypt Increases its Imports Of U S Tobacco
The American embassy in Cairo reports Egypt reduced total imports of unmanufactured tobacco last year while boosting imports of U S tobacco. Since 1949 Egypt’s tobacco imports have fallen as higher duties raise revenue and prices, lowering consumption. The United States supplied five million of Egypt’s 24 million 200 thousand pounds imported last year. In 1952 American imports totaled four million 200 thousand pounds.
