Market hogs rose 25 to 50 cents from last week with heavier consignments while pigs and shoats remained strong. Calves stayed near steady with Holstein heifers selling from 100 to 144 dollars. Cattle saw notable gains led by cows up about 4 dollars, Holstein cows topping at 52, and dairy consignments remaining heavy.
The Northeast Ohio Area wide Coordinating Agency is asked to approve four Lorain County projects totaling more than 498 000. Ohio State University seeks 324 887 for a Lake Erie quality monitoring program with six shoreline sites. YSI requests 117 789 for Junction Runaway Shelter services and training. Vermilion based Lucy Idol Center seeks 23 365 federal and 25 638 non federal for day program support. Lorain County Community Action Agency requests 6 984 federal for a Summer Youth Program for 8 to 13 year olds.
V and M Camper Center at 32200 Lorain Road, a major regional RV dealer, will shut down at end of April. Owner Al Kuenn cites inflation and high interest rates as factors, with a buyer and 5 acre plus 17,000 square foot site eyed for sale. Three of 11 employees remain. most have found other jobs. A March 29 auction sold much of remaining stock. The property lies near Interstate 480 and Ohio Turnpike Exit 9.
A Lorain traffic case against Andrew Daniels was dismissed after the judge failed to state a reason for continuance beyond the 30 day limit. Daniels argued he did not receive a speedy trial and the Ninth District Court of Appeals upheld dismissal, citing the need for the trial judge to state continuance reasons when the case is set for trial.
Michael E. LaGorga 50 from Strongsville was sentenced to three years in a federal prison for counterfeiting. He will serve the term concurrent with a bank fraud sentence. He was convicted with Parma printer Fred Zweiner of conspiring to produce 1.5 million counterfeit bills and for false cooperation to the Secret Service in 1978.
Scribner L. Fauver former state representative and Elyria councilman will head Marguerite E. Bowman's campaign for the 54th district seat. The appointment cites Fauver's council and legislative experience as a valuable asset for promoting the bid in Elyria Amherst North Ridgeville Oberlin and Avon.
