Polio Vaccine Triumph marks 25 years of curb on disease
The 1955 announcement by the March of Dimes that the Salk vaccine passed field tests, followed by Sabin's oral version, ended daily polio fears. By last year immunization coverage rose, and public health now reduces routine adult boosters. Surgeon General Julius Richmond credits dedicated individuals for the victory.

GM woodworkers face higher colon cancer rate study confirms
A Memorial Sloan-Kettering study finds GM wood shop workers have a 33 percent higher incidence of large intestine cancer than other groups. The 1,623 workers across 14 plants showed elevated rates in Fisher Body and Chevrolet Engineering in Warren, Michigan, while no single cause was found. GM and the UAW will launch an intensive inquiry.
