Lorain County Students Shine At Ohio State Science Day

At Columbus Ohio Exposition Center 19 area students from eight schools submitted seven fields of science projects. Elyria High School and Elyria Catholic High School students earned multiple Superior and Excellent ratings with names and addresses listed among the honorees.

Oberlin Board Approves County Voc Ed Plan

Oberlin Board of Education approved a resolution to participate in a Lorain County vocational education plan. The action follows Wellington Exempted Village and precedes Keystone Amherst Firelands decisions as districts weigh joining EHOVE due to cost. Superintendent Robert W. Albion area couple found dead in burning home

Kaul and his wife Mary Alice were discovered dead as their Albion area house burned. Investigators from Ashland County Sheriff’s Office and Ohio Bureau of Investigation work with Ohio State University path lab to determine cause. Firefighters found eight rooms on fire and 150 gallons of spilled fuel oil on the basement floor. The Kauls, former Cleveland greenhouse owners, had a daughter living in West Salem.

Sears may close and county eyes Broad Street space

County Commissioner J Norman Thompson disclosed that Sears on Broad Street may vacate September 1 and negotiations are under way to lease the building for county administration offices when Sears moves to its new Midway store.
