Cleveland manager Manny Acta mixed his lineup for the series opener with the White Sox after a 37-inning first weekend. Bench players started, regulars rested, and Jose Lopez made his first appearance of the season at first base.
Chicago lefty Chris Sale limited Cleveland to one run on three hits over six innings in his first start in the rotation. Indians manager Manny Acta cited Sale’s dominance as the key to the quiet night as Cleveland’s offense mustered little spark despite a Jose Lopez solo homer in the ninth. The Tribe has scored just 2.7 runs per nine and 5.8 hits per game through four games, while five different players have homered this season.
Feierabend, a left handed pitcher with Seattle Mariners MLB experience, was released by the Philadelphia Phillies in March after a 10-8 5.39 season at Lehigh Valley. Lake Erie Crushers manager Massarelli offered a max contract to join the rotation in 2012, with talks also tied to an Atlantic League offer. If he signs, he becomes the first Lorain County native to play for the Crushers and the first former MLB player to join the team.
Bubba Watson claimed the Masters after a playoff on the second extra hole at Augusta National. The victory, marked by a pink driver and a high energy celebration, makes him one of golf’s top figures and the leading American player.
