Robbery suspect killed by police in Ohio incident
A Middleburg Heights beverage store hold up led to three shootings. One suspect, James Bennett of Cleveland, 30, was killed by Cleveland police after firing at officers. Three others, including Brook Park officer Greg Wedo, were hospitalized with gunshot wounds. The robbery began at Mahr’s Beverage Store and involved suspect Chuck Hollister, 31, who also faced serious injuries. Police described Bennett’s attack and the ensuing exchange of gunfire that ended with Bennett dead. Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash were announced as Lorain County Fair headliners for 1981 with shows on August 28 and 29.

Lorain County Welfare Department under executive director Gerard Prinz reports higher fraud recovery than peers. In 1978 644 cases yielded 160,527 dollars repaid. 1980 saw 818 cases and 176,576 dollars returned. By 1981 four months produced 186 cases and over 40,400 dollars repaid.
