Housing inspectors keep Elyria homes fit and safe

Inspectors led by Harold C. Robinson conduct housing inspections to prevent deterioration and blight. The program, started after the 1966 housing code, has expanded to three inspectors who perform initial and re inspections, with most violations found during follow ups. The city emphasizes preventive maintenance as cheaper than rehabilitation or urban renewal, and inspectors operate by consent with no court action to date.
