Victims too upset to testify rapist goes free
In Chicago, prosecutors dropped charges against Patrick Williams after a psychiatrist advised that both the 8 year old victim and her mother were too fragile to testify. The case involved an alleged rape from last May. The mother Esther Clay faces charges of attempted murder and aggravated battery for shooting Williams five times as he sat handcuffed during police questioning. Williams, paralyzed, was brought to court on a stretcher as the charges were dismissed. Also reported are military and enlistment updates for Elyria area residents and local youths.

Area Residents Enter Service In United States Forces
Area residents enlist in the U S Air Force Marine Corps Army and Navy through late January 1977. Kirby a 1975 Midview High School graduate will begin six weeks of basic training and pursue a Career Education Certificate through the Community College of the Air Force. Marine PVT Terry E Meecha son of Mr and Mrs Elmer E Meecha of 83 Hartford Dr completed recruit training in San Diego after graduating Elyria High School in 1971. Army PVT Jennette Johnson daughter of Mr and Mrs Bennie Johnson of Sandusky joined the 3rd Armored Division in Germany after enlisting in July 1976 and is a 1976 Sandusky High School graduate. Navy Fireman Recruit Dennis R Evanko son of Mr and Mrs Lawrence V Evanko of North Olmsted completed recruit training at Great Lakes. Airman Kenneth J Hagood son of Mr and Mrs Raymond J Beursken of Vermilion graduated from the U S Air Force technical training course at Keesler AFB Mississippi and will report to Fort Lee VA with an Aerospace Defense Command unit. Hagood is a 1976 Vermilion High School graduate.
