Super Gear Shift Enables 11011 Speeds at Cal Tech
In Pasadena California the California Institute of Technology demonstrated a super gear shift for electric motors testing pumps for the Colorado River aqueduct. The mechanism features over twenty toothed ears and four shift levels with ten positions each, allowing pump speeds from half a revolution per minute up to 5000 revolutions per minute in half step increments.
