Axle Mile Tax Collection Costs Fall Short Of Expectation
Gov. Frank J. Lausche announced the axle mile tax administration costs are 3.44 percent of total revenues, well below the predicted 42 percent. He contrasted with opponents who warned of at least 10 percent collection costs. He noted sales tax collection since 1935 runs about 7 percent of revenue. Lausche said the lower axle mile tax cost undermines anti tax opponents’ arguments.
