Gas Fated Flames Damage Abbe Rd Welding Shop Fire
Flames fed by a high pressure gas line swept through William W. Beal Welding Service at 159 Abbe Road yesterday after 3 PM. The fire started near the northeast corner when a leaking valve was ignited by a space heater, destroying the 30 by 40 foot concrete shop and pushing out the block walls as beams expanded. Firefighters turned off gas at the street and after about an hour brought the blaze under control. Owner William Beal, who lives at 133 Gulf Road, reported insurance on the building but not on contents.
