Elyria Reports Sharp Drop in First Quarter Fire Loss

Fire Chief Bates reports Elyria’s first quarter 1937 fire loss at 19671.73 dollars, far below 1936’s 80548.46, with 50 alarms. Two March fires accounted for nearly 16000 dollars, including a Granite Concrete Block plant blaze and the Lake Avenue pet hotel fire. The 1936 Robson home fire was the major early-year loss, driving last year’s total higher. The recent drop and minor grass-fires suggest reduced hazards as the Clean-Up Campaign begins.
