Strip Mining Emphasized at Cleveland Coal Convention
Cleveland May 11. Strip mining dominated talks at the American Mining Congress exposition as more than 8 000 delegates heard eight experts discuss drilling blasting and excavation. Hanna Coal Co officials Andrew Hyslop Jr. and Russell McHugh said strip mining yields higher recovery per acre than underground methods in most cases. Arno C Fieldner of the US Bureau of Mines warned that coal production has overtaken demand and that mineral fuel resources could last 100 to 300 years.
