Second Tragedy in Family Boy Killed in Gun Accident

A 10 year old, Jackie Brown of 220 S Chapel St Louisville, was fatally shot by his 20 year old uncle at the rear of Superior Sheet Steel Co. The shooter Claude N Hallas of 620 Washington St Louisville claimed he fired at a creek then heard a cry and found Jackie with a fatal neck wound. Jackie died at Mercy Hospital at 6 35 pm. Deputy reports note other shooting incidents the same day as concerns grow over .22 caliber rifles near homes. Burial set at First Brethren Church Louisville with services Friday at 10 30 am conducted by Rev John Byler.

Canton Holdup Suspect Caught At Syracuse

Police in Syracuse, New York, captured John J Buckley on crutches, wanted by Canton police for questioning in the March 7, 1947 hold up of Public Loan Corp. Buckley, a former Canton resident, allegedly held up a female employee at pistol point. One officer said Buckley had a .45 revolver and fired a shot when approached.

In Jersey City New Jersey fusion forces led by John V Kenny defeated Frank Hague Eggers and the Hague ticket for all five city commission seats. Kenny’s slate won record turnout of 143541 ballots and Kenny led with 81295 votes while Eggers secured 59052 and Murray 73577.

In Columbus on May 11 the Senate judiciary committee rejected the conveyor belt measure to build a 130 mile rubber railroad for coal and ore between Lorain and East Liverpool with spurs to Cleveland and Youngstown. The vote was five against and three for. The House tabled a similar measure last week. Supporters conceded prospects this session are dim.

GM Astro Dome Delights Canton Visitors On Train of Tomorrow

The General Motors Train of Tomorrow visit to Canton features astrodomes aboard a four-car streamliner. Passengers enjoy glass-enclosed top seats with panoramic views, weather and glare protection, and a sense of gliding like a large airliner. About 150 visitors from Canton, Massillon, and Cleveland ride in the astrodomes during a three day stop, amid GM executives and local leaders.

Boy Classmate, 16, Jailed In Parish Murder of Girl

Lee Goode Scott, a husky 16 year old and high school wrestler, was charged with the parish house murder of his schoolmate Dana Marie Weaver in Lee Va. He gave detectives a statement after more than six hours of questioning. Police Court Judge Samuel R. Price swore out the murder warrant and the youth was held without bond. An anonymous caller tipped investigators to question him.

Train of Tomorrow opens for public viewing at B&O siding

The Train of Tomorrow will be open for boarding and inspection from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. today Thursday and Friday at the B. and O. siding on 7th Street near Waterworks Park. Visitors enter at the rear of the observation car and depart from the locomotive cab.

Streamlined train dazzles residents on 50 mile guest run

Spectators along the route gaze at a blue and silver streamliner weighing nearly 1,000,000 pounds and powered by two 1000 horsepower Diesel motors. The 411-foot train seats 216 passengers in domes, sleepers, and cars, with 24 reclining in sleeping domes and 18 in the dining car.

Bonn chosen provisional capital of West Germany

The West German Constituent Assembly selected Bonn as provisional capital, voting 33 to 29 over Frankfurt with Stuttgart and Karlsruhe eliminated. Two Communists abstained and one ballot was invalid. Bonn, near Cologne on the Rhine, houses 100,000 people in the British zone. Former Nazis were barred from presidency and parliament in a 36 to 29 vote.
