Truman Signs Bill To Pay Off U.S. Deficit
Washington June 24 UP The government obtained more funds to finish this year but Congress made little headway on next year’s appropriations. President Truman signed an 862 563 510 deficiency measure mainly for salaries after raises. Some funds cover White House repairs and payrolls as the fiscal year ends June 30. House and Senate have passed only one of ten regular spending bills for the 1950 fiscal year. Senator Flanders proposed deep military budget cuts estimating 3 000 000 000 could be saved by reducing forces and maintenance. The War Assets Administration liquidation was debated as the committee favored ending it, despite moves to extend its life.
