Inter-organization conference seeks cuts to budget bill
A 50-member statewide conference proposes a $19,000,000 reduction to the $646,802,000 biennial budget bill. The measure, approved by the House and now before the Senate finance committee, funds state government for two years starting July 1. The conference estimates two-year revenues at $500,000,000, a conservative figure amid sliding business activity, and urges a flat 10 percent cut in appropriations except for fixed legal costs such as poor relief, which it expects to rise by $2,500,000. Governor Lausche calls poor relief the No. 1 problem.
