White Veteran Flogged by Robed Gang in Alabama
In Birmingham a 31 year old white Navy veteran Billy Guyton Stovall was dragged from his home by robed assailants and flogged 20 times with a belt. He said he would defend himself with a gun if needed and blamed the attack on leaving his children home alone. The incident follows two earlier robed gang assaults in the area and the governor ordered more state troopers and the National Guard to help stop the violence. Paralleling these events a separate robbery in Chicago saw Albert A. Zietz resist with kicks and escape unharmed from three bandits.
