Col Harry E Gibbs 59 president of Gibbs Manufacturing Co died after a cerebral hemorrhage in Aultman Hospital Canton. A Canton native and WWI WWII veteran he led the firm from 1939 and was active in civic and Masonic circles. Funeral Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church with burial in Westlawn Cemetery. He lived at 2953 Woodcliff Rd NW Avondale and attended Western Reserve University Case School but left to run the Gibbs estate after his father’s illness.
Communist government sharply escalated its clash with the Catholic Church in Prague. Justice Minister Cepicka accused Archbishop Beran and bishops of treason, warned against papal excommunications of Communists, and announced plans for a church control bill. The measure would treat priests and officials as state employees and tighten oversight of churches and schools. Status of Beran remains unclear as police keep him under watch while other clergy face arrests for punishable acts.

John Fausnight 77 of RD 1 Louisville died of a heart attack Friday at 8:30 p.m. as he ran toward a two-car crash near his farm at Immel rd and Tyrehall School rd. Driver Ralph Shoemaker 48 was charged with failing to yield. other driver William O Donohue 42 and passengers including Emma O Donohue 64 were treated for injuries. Fausnight had farmed 28 years and was a Church of the Brethren member. He leaves a wife, three children, siblings, six grandchildren, and one great grandchild. Services are set Sunday at Spiker funeral home and East Nimishillen Church of the Brethren with burial at the church cemetery.
