Police Guard Sik Envoy in U S After Threat

A round the clock police guard is set at the Hungarian legation in Washington after threats to minister Andrew Sik. Three officers four eight hour shifts. two legation officials resigned in protest, another was ordered out. Diplomatic tensions follow Mindszenty sentencing. U S officials warn of pressures on peasants to collectivize.

U S Envoy in Hungary to Fly Home This Week

U S Minister Selden Chapin faced Hungary’s demand for recall as diplomatic circles said he would depart Budapest on an American plane Wednesday or Thursday. Mrs Chapin will accompany him. Dr Andrew Sik had relayed the recall demand to Washington. Cochran expected as charge d affaires during Chapin homeward flight.

Marvin S. Lucas, 20, of 1500 Tuscarawas st E, was arrested on a suspicious person charge after being seen flashing a gold police badge on Tuscarawas st E near Savannehave. He was fined $10 and costs in Municipal Court.

Chinese Peace Efforts Pushed in Two Delegations

In Nanking on February 14, Communist leaders sent off a five man elder statesman group from Shanghai to meet Chou En Lai in Peiping for a high level peace conference. An unofficial delegation led by Dr. W. W. Yen and Sheu Li-tze aims to secure a top level meeting while a separate group led by Wu Yu-hua returns to Nanking to press for a revision of demands against war criminals. The Central News Agency says talks at Tihwa promise economic and mining concessions to Soviet Russia in Sin kiang.

East Ohio Gas Freed From FPC Rule

The U S Court of Appeals ruled East Ohio Gas Co of Cleveland is not a natural gas company under Federal Power Commission regulation. In a 2 1 decision, judges Clark and Prettyman reversed a FPC order requiring a new accounting system. Edgerton dissented citing interstate commerce concerns.

W C Sanders Dies Pioneer of Railway Bearings

W C Sanders longtime general manager of Timken Roller Bearing Co railway division died Sunday at 1 05 p m in Aultman Hospital from complications of a blood infection likely from WW I leg wounds. A Cedartown Georgia native, he served as lieutenant colonel in the US Army Reserve Corps and helped design roller bearings for major railcars and trains. He joined Timken in 1923 and was active in ASME, RRSA, and other rail industry groups. He is survived by his widow Margaret E Taggart and mother Mrs Ora Sanders.

Stern & Mann Employes Held In Theft Case

Two Stern & Mann Co employees were arrested on suspicion after police found coats and other items stolen from the 301 Tuscarawas store. Eight coats two suits two sweaters a purse 60 stockings three slips and three perfume bottles were missing. Most merchandise was recovered at a suspect’s home. Three other thefts and two attempted burglaries were reported over the weekend.

Fire at Downtown Stag 3rd St SE gutts restaurant and warehouse

A two-alarm blaze at the Downtown Stag on 210 3rd St SE destroyed the restaurant and damaged the adjacent Dumont Seed Co. warehouse. Three injured firefighters were treated and released, with one to return for X-rays. Estimated damage totals $50,000.

Canton to Install Six Stadium Lights for Traffic Control

County commissioners and the Canton board of education will install six spotlights near Fawcett Stadium to aid traffic control during football season. Three lights will be placed on Fulton Street NW and three on Broadview Road NW. each entity pays half the installation cost and the board of education will maintain the lights.

Mrs Bradley Retrial Delayed by Attorney Illness

The retrial of Delores Bradley, 25, of 1814 Irwin Pl NE, on a second degree murder charge was postponed in Judge Paul G Weber's court due to illness of attorney Franklin L Maier. A six six jury had earlier disagreed January 21 after hearing evidence. Bradley is charged with stabbing Lee Scott, 27, of 1837 Irwin Pl NE, during an October 17 Massillon altercation.
