Massillon Alliance vote to adopt daylight saving time
Stark County cities Massillon Alliance and Canton faced a split on daylight saving time as Massillon and Alliance passed fast time ordinances while Canton delayed action. Alliance voted unanimously 3rd reading to adopt DST 2 a.m. last Sunday in April returning to standard time last Sunday in September, Massillon 7 to 2 with two dissenters, Canton discussed but took no action. Missing tow truck rider faces grand jury action
Robert Sanford, 21, of 922 Tuscara, was arrested at 1 28 a m after police spotted him driving Oscar's Garage truck at 500 Cherry Ave NE. The alarm had been broadcast. he said he found the keys and rode off for 20 minutes. He pled guilty in Municipal Court to operating without the owner's consent and was bound to the grand jury by Judge Gordon J. Burris.

Former Secretary of State Cordell Hull, 77, left Bethesda Naval Hospital in excellent condition after nearly three years of treatment for a complication of ailments. Tragic crash claims Uniontown doctor and wife on Route 43
Dr Paul Staman 41 and his wife Rose 38 of Uniontown were killed when their 1949 Buick skidded on a wet curve and collided head on with a heavy tractor trailer carrying 12 tons of building tile. Truck driver Loren Derr 43 of Rising Sun Ohio reported the car was speeding before crossing into his lane. The couple attended a convention in Chicago and were en route home with two children.
