In San Marino California 20 men labor to lower a 24 inch pipe and reach 3 year old Kathy Fiscus trapped 94 feet underground in an abandoned well. Engineers drill two shafts and plan to tunnel toward the pipe as doctors express cautious hope for her survival despite no signs of life after 24 hours.
At the United Nations, Andrei Gromyko charged Britain, the United States, and France with using Libya Eritrea and Italian Somaliland as bases for aggression against the Soviet Union. John Foster Dulles rejected the charges as unfounded and outlined shifts in postwar strategy and Europe’s reliance on Africa for stability and growth.
Speakers at a Saturday noon Canton forum urged immediate construction of an arena style auditorium and a municipal building. He was listed in fair condition at Mercy Hospital Saturday night with a ruptured spleen after the 1 25 p m accident on the 700 block of Walnut NE. Police said he rode downgrade on the south sidewalk of McKinley High and was traveling too fast.
