Assault on Ward County teacher prompts manhunt

A nurse teacher was dragged from a carriage and beaten by a tramp five miles from Plaza North Dakota. A large posse including Plaza marshal, Minot sheriff and U S commissioner searches hills between Plaza and Berthold. Citizen fear lynching if the suspect is caught. The description notes a thirty year old man about five ten, 160 pounds, reddish hair and a missing front tooth.

Grams Reports Grading Crew For Swift Current Line

A. Grams and the Schultz brothers progress on a 10 mile grading contract near Swift Current Saskatchewan. At the time of departure there were 23 workers and 87 horses, hay at 21 dollars a ton, and plans to sub let part of the work if needed.

Birth Day Party for Myrtle Lindblad at Ward School District

Mrs and Mrs F Lindblad hosted a birthday gathering last Sunday with games and a luncheon. Many neighbors were present including Norlin family from Bowbells and Olson family from Coteau. A Sunday ball game at Coteau saw Burke defeat Coteau. several locals attended other errands and church services.

Bickford Pleads Not Guilty in Embezzlement Case

Fargo North Dakota May 22 Judge Engerud returns from Bismarck where he aided the state in prosecuting G L Bickford former state treasurer charged with embezzlement. Three informations allege embezzlement totaling 60 438 11 25 000 and false entries 15 220 55. Defendants demurrers and motions were overruled and Bickford pleaded not guilty. Trial date not set.

Beautifying Bowbells: Hartman Leads Civic Association Plan

E E Hartman advocates Citizens Social and Industrial Association of Bowbells to beautify Bowbells and improve sanitation. A meeting at the courthouse next Tuesday May 30 aims to explain aims and elect officers. The plan includes street improvements and promoting cement walks. A Bowbells ball game vs Columbus is slated for Sunday at 3 pm. Bowbells commercial club meeting set for June 6. Mrs. Nels O. Ganslow is ill with rheumatism.
