Whiskey Runner Killed in South Dakota Chase by Officers
Jamestown North Dakota May 12 a whiskey runner and two companions were killed after a running fight with state enforcement officers and farmers near Millarton and Gackle. The dead man was identified as Madden of Sioux City. Officers fired hundreds of rounds as the group fled, wounding a companion who died hours later. One man was captured after a final pursuit to a grain field four miles from Gackle.

Former Servige Man Nelson Found Dead in Rooming House

Parents and Babe Die in Walhalla Farm Fire Explosion
In Walhalla North Dakota Mr Andrew Gunnion and Mrs Gunnion and two children aged two and five months perished in a farm home blaze believed sparked by a kerosene explosion as Mrs Gunnion started a kitchen fire. The couple died later at Valhalla hospital, while neighbors could not save the children. The wedding party later attended a Coteau dance with Bowalils orchestra.

Detectives in Jamestown Shootout Leave Two Dead
Jamestown North Dakota May 12 Two Northern Pacific railroad detectives William Wyant and Henry Kearns and three men clashed near the tracks after a suspected car robbery. One man was killed instantly another fatally wounded a third wounded and possibly fled. The two detectives were wounded and jailed as the shooting quieted. James Hartley identified as J Carlson from Chicago died last night while a man named Walter Harrison carried a public union card and held eight jobs since 1978. Johnson carried about 1800 in gold and cash.

Bowbells High School Wins First Cross Country Relay
Bowbells High School won the inaugural Cross Country Relay as Jegsen finished first by over a half mile. Despite gale winds, Bowbells led Flaxton and Lignite with strong legs from Eugene Schuste and others. Prizes totaled twenty dollars to Bowbells, ten to Flaxton, five to Lignite, while Mayor Hansen of Bowbells and Mr. Bertie Nelson spoke at the awards.
