Bowbells and neighbors gathered in Flaxton for the county old settlers reunion with a large parade led by the Portal band. A highlight was a speech by Jones of Rock, a Democratic candidate for governor. A Bowbells Columbus game ended in a 10 8 tie after rain halted the second game. A shooting incident near Talcott farm led to a posse pursuit. the stranger was killed and an inquest cleared the pursuers. Windy Smith Charged With Murder in Buffalo Case
State's Attorney Fowler filed a second degree murder complaint against I. S. Smith known as Windy Smith of Buffalo. Smith was held on $5,000 bond by Justice Miller and to be tried at the November district court term. The killing involved an unknown man terrorizing Buffalo residents after a May 9 running fight.

Conductors on Soo Line Acquitted in Fare-Evasion Case
Fargo June 15 J C Tripp and H J Ryan former Soo Line conductors charged with transporting passengers from Portal North Dakota to Minneapolis without collecting fares were found not guilty after a three hour jury deliberation. The state versus Arne Amundson faced a hung jury after seventeen hours of deliberation with a 10 to 2 split for conviction. The case, transferred from Williston to Crosby, will be retried at Crosby in the September term.
