Cayuga North Dakota August 17 John Falkowski a farmer was found hanging by a binder pulley while repairing equipment. He was unconscious as the mechanism had momentarily tightened the rope. He was rescued thanks to an earlier emergency call for a machine expert.
Aug 17 Minot reports a fatal hailstorm across Spronmh and numerous counties. Andrew Erickson, near Rolette, was struck in an open field and died hours later. The storm hit Portal Crosby Rolette Bowbells Mohall Norma Rugby Barton and many other points. It damaged over half a million acres of grain.
Sherwood N. Aug. 17 A Canadian border case ends with H Spaulding arrest after a Studebaker incident at Carnduff Sask. Prom of Milton accompanied by a prisoner without proper papers was taken to Northgate customs and bonded for 620 dollars before release. The vehicle was seized and Prom later reentered Canada via Portal.
Donnybrook, Aug 17 Last Saturday P J Gillitzer on Kilian farm east of town found a gray mare branded O K on right shoulder left tethered at a pasture fence by a man driving a horse and buggy. The horse was exposed to rain without food or water, then Gillitzer took it to his barn and fed and sheltered it. He suspects the animal was stolen and abandoned by the culprit who walked back to town and left on the next train.
Biomarck North Dakota August 17. Two more convicts Frank Murray and Nickolas Chernosther thief and murderer were added to the list of 20 prisoners who escaped the state prison last night.
In the last ten weeks and today they remain at large. Mike Cheriishaw, a horse thief, and Joe Peltier, a murderer, escaped Tuesday from a dairy barn outside the prison wall. Cheriishaw was recaptured yesterday afternoon in Glencoe North Carolina and returned to the prison this morning, but Peltier remains at large. Murray, serving three years for horse theft, and Themos, serving twenty six years for second degree murder, were involved.
Kenmare North Dakota a young bootlegger known as Snerty who had appeared around town for months was arrested Saturday evening on bootlegging charges. He was bound over to district court after a Monday hearing and somehow sawed his way out of the city jail Monday night leaving town. A gambler arrested Saturday night chose a fine or exile and left town.
Jamestown North Dakota August 17 John Weisser faced Judge Murphy on grand larceny charges detectives say about 400 pounds of brass were unlawfully taken from the road A neighbor’s child testified he urged youngsters to fetch brass and hide it in a wood shed Emma age 11 helped drag and conceal the pieces Weisser bound over to district court on a thousand dollar bond
In Minot North Dakota on August 17 lawyers J B Davis and Janica Manahan filed federal actions for the five Berthold school children seeking 125000 dollars total damages. Each child claims 25000. Actions target Great Northern alleging crossing negligence and call for a watchman at the crossing. One suit also seeks damages for the driver’s death and an Arnold boy injury.
Under the Non-Contiguous law in North Dakota, homesteaders who proved 160 acres under quarter section terms may file for an additional 160 acres within twenty miles of their former claim. They need not reside on the new land if they reside on their original homestead and complete required improvements. families may then take up 320-acre homesteads open under the enlarged act.
Four men, three armed, were captured at Grand Forks and held as suspects in a laborer robbery at Grandin and a nighttime freight train heist from Fargo to Grand Forks. W. W. members were favored. non-members were tossed from the moving train. One victim alerted crew, leading to arrests.
About four hundred transient men claiming S. W. W. affiliation were rounded up in Grand Forks County today for forcibly taking money and jewelry from laborers riding freight trains. Victims received robbed cards in exchange for proceeds. Police and sheriff’s team mobilized, moving the group to the jail as a show of force.
Fessenden North Dakota August 17 Harold Belcher youngest son of Mr and Mrs A I Belcher escaped death after a touring car ran over him fracturing his jaw. Initial reports had him dying from profuse bleeding and severe mouth injuries as he stood near a merry go round at the fair when the vehicle from Braeger's wheels passed over his head.
A new shell game circulates via agents across the country targeting farmers. Buyers sign a contract for an alleged automatic sewing machine, but at delivery time no one fulfills the contract except the purchaser, signaling a fraudulent scam.
Crosby North Dakota August seventeenth Mrs Jack Carson sustained a severe accident last Monday around six o clock when thrown from a wagon head and shoulder with force causing brain concussion as she drove toward a very steep approach
The wagon reach broke but the box weight held gears until mud caused a sharp ground penetration. The box and rear running gear pitched upward throwing Mrs. Carson from the wagon with force. She struck her head and shoulders and lay unconscious for about 24 hours, then showed signs of improvement as a physician reported nearing danger. The team paused at the railway crossing opposite the G N depot unharmed.
Whitston North Dakota August 17 William Eckert was killed instantly when his car overturned after turning for a passing wagon near East Broadway. Fred J Porritt, acting city engineer, suffered severe bruises as the accident left Eckert trapped beneath the vehicle with fatal neck and back injuries. Porritt was ejected. Eyewitnesses estimated speeds between 16 and 30 miles per hour. The crash may have been caused by a rut or brake miscue as Eckert tried to pass. Eckert, a bachelor with family in Ohio, was a large farm owner near Spring Brook and a well known local figure. Funeral services were held this afternoon under the Elks lodge, with memberships in Moose and Knights of Pythias noted.
A severe rain and wind storm last Thursday night swept through parts of North Dakota and Minnesota. Henry Borgeson was killed when all buildings on the Borgeson farm were wrecked near Hamar, and his father was severely injured. James Wright, 14, died near Orrin when a cook car overturned in the wind. Wright’s mother Mrs. Matt Wright and her daughter Jessie were fatally injured.
Bernard Blixhaven aged 12 drowned at Jarvie Lake near St John North Dakota while swimming. He dived, likely struck a submerged log, surfaced unconscious and did not recover. Ex-Sheriff J D Lucey visited from his ranch to handle game business and commented on jackrabbits and local wildlife as he stays busy between stock and Brain.
Minot and Donnybrook police arrest Frank Brady and F E Morris on assault with dangerous weapon charges after an abortive attempt to rob the Globe hotel in Donnybrook Sunday morning. F A Quinn is bound over on similar charges. all face preliminary hearings. Witnesses describe a tense lobby scene with gun threats. no money was taken.
Mrs Christian Murk died at Andrew Norberg residence Bowbells last week after months of illness. Born in Norway she immigrated to America in 1888 living in Minneapolis Willmar and Burke County before homesteading near Tompkins Sask then returning to Bowbells. She was nearly 67, survived by eight children and a devoted husband. All but Charlie and Ole attended the funeral.
The funeral from the Danish church southeast of town was held Thursday afternoon at two o'clock with Rev. J. B. Sorenson of Niobe officiating. The county fair was postponed due to last week’s storm. no fair will be held until next year. Gust Albertson of Roseland reports his wheat and crop conditions, while a new automatic piano player sells for Moore Hardware Co. Stanle Hendrickson, a Republican nominee, is expected to draw strong support, with league endorsements noted and his local influence praised.

He criticized the building as unsafe for county records, noting cramped conditions, disorganized filing, and the need for a more substantial structure funded by the county treasury and idle bank money.
