The Herald notes federal seed wheat loans are now available and invites interested parties to contact their local banker to negotiate the loan. Also records Beaver county Liberty Loan committee appointments and local Red Cross activity, with a gunshot accident near Gray ending in finger amputation.
The Beaver school will open Monday marking the start of a nine month term. Some nearby districts delay opening for crop work or start in October, but Beaver will begin promptly September 1 to fit the nine month schedule.
Citizens urged to protect national wealth by investing only in stocks approved by the Capital Issues Committee. The panel governs issues above 100000 and must approve all smaller loans too. Treasonous to buy stock lacking committee permission. Community cooperation requested to withhold unpermitted issues.
Public notice urges investors to demand the Capital Issues Committee permit before purchasing stock or bonds. Do not trade Liberty Bonds for stock even with a permit. The message appeals to wartime duty and government cooperation to fund the war effort.
A large crowd gathered at the Globe Building and K P hall for a patriotic program honoring soldiers en route to service. Rev J E Perkins presided as Private Clarence Strong spoke on leave and J R Quinn, a Civil War veteran, opened the program with remarks. Rev W B Leonard Attorney Roscor Risley and Rev Davis offered talks while the band provided music. Citizens lined the streets to bid the departing troops God speed, with a late midnight dance and commemoration at the depot.
Government regulates weekly subscriptions to conserve print paper and costs. A pay in advance system will be required, with notifications to subscribers and possible discontinuation after paid periods. Publishers must adjust lists by January 1919 and renewals are urged to prepay for a year to maintain service and avoid notices.
Memorial services will be held at Remer's Grove west of Sunset Sunday, September 1, at 2. Former resident Floyd Girton died while serving in France. The community invites friends to attend in support of the cause of freedom.

J E Newby and wife of Gate visit county seat Saturday.
