Alma College Opens Fourteenth Year With Improvements

Alma College begins its fourteenth year with strong outlook and new facilities. Registration starts September 1 at nine o'clock, followed by a chapel opening with Professor Flon Notestein speaking. Major improvements include expanded library alcoves, renovated recitation spaces, and upgraded departments in commerce, music, and art. Scholarships and free tuition for certain graduates and Alma youth are offered as incentives for local students.

Loyalist Leonard KR Sinuvoens Dies After Civil War Service

Leonard KR Sinuvoens born Jerusalem Yate county New York February 21 184. Enlisted with company F 2ath Regiment Ohio Volunteers in 1865 and honorably discharged June 1th 1866 after one year as prisoner. Lived in Saint Louis Michigan then Alma moved. Married to Mrs Alien Peck of Newark Gratiot county Michigan Polwnary 4 ia. Died WW years six months fifteen days after. Survived by wife and six children.

Maccabee Picnic and Carnival Attracts Big Crowd

The Maccabee picnic and carnival last Friday drew large crowds by rail and on the streets, with the Pleasant band guiding visitors to Main Street. Ithuecs band joined later as delegates from local tents gathered and the Central Michigan Maver bee association organized. The parade started late but proceeded smoothly, park addresses were well delivered, and the sports program was carried out to general approval. The day was a memorable success for Maccabees and all involved, with full report to appear in the next issue.

Corner Stone Laying Promises Big Day in Ithaca

The corner stone ceremony for Ithaca’s new court house is set for next Tuesday. Invitations go to local masons and all fraternal orders. The Grand Lodge F and A M will preside with other orders invited to participate in the line and ceremonies.

Michigan State Fair Opens at Grand Rapids This Year

The fifty first annual State Fair opens September 24 in Grand Rapids and runs to September 28. Prospects for a large show are good with several fine special attractions and a strong horse program. Officers urge public patronage and hope many readers attend for a comprehensive exhibition. Hood's Sarsaparilla is advertised as curing diseases from impure blood.
