Young Alma Girl Killed Tuesday Tragedy Near Home

Beatrice Epler, a young resident of Alma, was murdered Tuesday near her home. Riverside police said the slaying occurred at night within sight of her residence, prompting an urgent investigation.

Resignation of City Marshal Rogers Accepted

The Ace of the Air Brock Draws Big Alma Crowd

A large crowd in Alma witnessed Billy Brock known as The Ace of the Air perform Sunday and Monday. Estimates say over 5400 attended Sunday with many more for Monday flights. Central Heights and Southview opened sales days drawing visitors from up to fifty miles away for the year’s biggest event.

Alma draftsmen honored at farewell banquet in gymnasium

Veterans of the Civil War and local groups hosted a farewell banquet for Gratiot county drafted men bound for training at Bat Me Creek. Speakers praised patriotism, noted physical fitness by county youths, and thanked the Red Cross and GA R members. The Alma post office will relocate to the Marshall Dallas block around early October amid ongoing construction.

Prominent Shiawassee Pioneer Dies at 85

Chauncey Deming Searl, born in 1841 in Brooklyn Ohio, died Friday morning at his home in Perryfield Shiawassee County Michigan aged 85 years 8 months and 21 days. He moved to Michigan in 1855 married Harriet B Kelly in 1837 and built a home at Minefield. Survived by wife and children and a large funeral turnout from Ashley Bannister Ovid Burtoh Gno ses Coruna and Whack. Funeral held at home with Rev Geo Varian officiating.
