Raymond Everden Dead in St Louis at 15

Raymond Everden aged 15 the only child of Mrs Q N Everden died at his home in St Louis last Thursday at 10 am after a short illness. Funeral services were held Saturday at the Episcopal church with Rev Zeigler in charge and Rev Wolfe of the M E church offering comfort. Burial followed in St Louis cemetery beside his father who was laid to rest a year ago. Mrs Everden receives sympathy from Gratiot county friends.

Alma Roller Mills Power and Local Grain Market

Alma Roller Mills contributes to growth by providing a grain market for farmers across the district. The plant buys rye corn oats buck wheat and barley locally with remainder purchased in adjoining counties. It uses turbine wheels for 260 horsepower, plus a Corliss engine of 200 horsepower if needed, and can operate steam and water power concurrently. Dr. H Lancashire returns from an eastern trip including Boston and New York.

Miracle escape as buggy struck at Pere Marquette crossing

Mrs. Samson Stearns and her two young children narrowly survived a fatal Pere Marquette crossing accident at Riverdale. A noon freight struck the buggy, killing the horse and reducing the rig to kindling. the children were thrown about 20 feet but only bruised, while Mrs. Stearns was dragged but unharmed.

The Rosebush bank building by Cole Bros is finished. The brick structure measures 28 by 50 feet with a 12 foot ceiling and features a fire and burglar proof vault inside measuring 6 by 8 feet.

Alma Mills Power High Grade Wheat and Flour Exports

Alma area leads in high grade wheat production with mills running 12 hours daily. They process about 1,400 bushels per day, yielding 200 barrels of flour and 100 of rye and buckwheat. Export trade ships most non local flour to New York and New England for Liverpool and Glasgow, in wood and paper sacks. Barrels may soon rise in cost as stave prices climb. The plant features modern machinery, a 60,000 bushel elevator and a 4,000 barrel warehouse, with sheet iron lining and strong steam and water power advantages.

New milking machine draws crowds in Middleport county

Henry Searing reports a Daily Herald notice about an electric milking machine installed on C. H. Francis's Mechanic street farm. The device, run by electricity, reportedly milks 52 cows in under 45 minutes with two cows processed at once and no trouble despite wild or kicking animals.
