W J Melchers leads Union Telephone Company in Alma to host a meeting bringing together operators from Alma and surrounding exchanges within 30 miles. Attendees from Saginaw Grand Rapids Bay City and Lansing shared experiences and discussed improving service. The event at the Wright House followed by Halloween festivities for students and a pending intercollegiate football game against Oliver. Five girls attended the state Y W A convention at Muskeg.

Art of Life comedy staged by Donald Robinson troupe
The Art of Life a three act comedy was presented at the opera house not Tuesday evening by the Donald Robinson players. Mr Robinson was undoubtedly the best actor Alma people have had the opportunity of bearing in their home city and his support was excellent. The entertainment, as a whole, was far better than the average that visit cities of this size.

Five Entertainments Lecture Course Opens November 20
The 100 1970 season opens November 20 with a $1.00 season ticket plus ten cents per entertainment reserved seat. Hon. Champ Clark of Missouri opens the series with a leading public lecture. The Redpath-Slayton company presents four star artists in the second program. The College Singing Girls and Walter Ecces headline the third, followed by Rogers-Grillay Recitals on February 8. The season closes March 17 with Ernest Harold Baynes on Wild Animals of America. Tickets go on sale this week on a first come, first served basis.

Death of Enoch B. Woodard at 77 in Gratiot County
Enoch B. Woodard died Friday October 22 at his daughter Mrs Myron Potters home in Sumner township after a long illness. Born September 12 1982 in Madison County New York he came to Gratiot County in 1500 and lived here since. He was a member of the Methodist church and his funeral was led by Rev Whaley at Riverdale M E church. Burial was in Pitchard cemetery beside his wife. Pallbearers were Wm Beverly A Wiley EB Marey W Pugsley C F Renner and George Trinh. His death leaves two children and many friends in Gratiot County.

Must Pay Fare After Refusal On Pere Marquette Train
C H Jackson of Sparta was told by the railroad commission to pay the fare immediately after he and three women refused to pay for riding in the aisle because there were no seats. The commission held that the advice Jackson sought from Senator William Alden Smith was not valid. Jackson had boarded at Sparta for Grand Rapids, stood in the aisle, and then filed a complaint. he was informed there is no legal authority to refuse payment under such conditions and must settle the fare at once.

Badly Injured Woman Falls At Grist Mill
Mrs Matila Walker of East Superior street fell ten feet down stairs at a grist mill while ordering feed. She sustained severe bruises to limbs and body, was taken home, a doctor summoned, and is reported resting easily today.
