All Churches to Aid the Y Rally Day in County Churches

Special speakers will attend services across the county on Sunday October 20 to promote boys work and Y M C A programs. About sixty men will present talks on "The Need of Boys' Work" across churches from Alma to Breckenridge, Ithaca, Pompeii, and more, with a countywide union service scheduled. A short financial drive is planned next Monday to fund the coming year’s YMCA work and oversee county, state, and international contributions.

Gratiot County Elects Three Road Commissioners

On Saturday the Gratiot county board of supervisors elected three road commissioners under the county road system. Alma gained one appointee among the trio. The appointees named were George Kuhlman of Alma James P Gibbs of Ithaca and Frank Hines of Fulton township. The group traveled to Lansing Tuesday to receive guidance and learn road laws.

Athletic Fund Drive Initiated at Anna College

A campaign for a 35000 athletic fund at Anna College began in the chapel service with student speeches on needs in athletics. Pledges totaling about 3400 were reported, with more than seventy students yet to be solicited. Faculty pledges will follow, and organizers expect the total to reach the goal before extending the drive to the city and alumni.

Circuit Court Calendar Out For October Term

The October term circuit court opens Monday October 27 with seventy nine cases including fourteen criminal matters. Criminal docket lists People v Alot Spencer larceny and others including poisoning cattle resisting an officer and bigamy among ten further names. Law and civil matters follow with numerous trespass attachments appeals and garnishments across many firms and individuals including John Jacques, James Mills, Motor Securities Company, Parry Mfg Co, and Republic Motor Truck Co.

Hope College Defeated 39-0 by Alma in Football Clash

The Alma College team routed Hope College with a 39 to 0 victory on Davis Field. Alma dominated nearly every phase, with key contributions from Smith Walker Milford Beattie and Captain Helert leading a strong performance in both offense and defense. The green machine opened a large lead early and maintained pressure, while Hope struggled to gain momentum despite a few promising moments in the first quarter.

Michigan Northern to buy Ogood Bradley cars in deal

The Michigan Northern Railroad plans to let a contract for all cars to the Ogood Bradley Car Company of Worcester Massachusetts after talks with J S Bradley. Worcester firm to supply refrigeration milk express freight and passenger cars with Edison storage battery self propeller cars also discussed with Pennsylvania and Long Island officials. Paul Hale, an Alma youth, was picked up and taken to Ithaca juvenile court on a charge of attempted rape of a seven year old Alma girl.

Alma Roller Mills to reopen under Tucker in Alma

Alma plans to reopen the roller mills within ten days as Abram A. Tucker of Concord Michigan rents the property from J A Sharp. Tucker will take possession on Saturday and holds an option to buy by July 1 1920. He aims to establish the mill as a leading market center in the region and start operations at once.

Mrs P M Smith opened her home to Frances Willard Union for a teachers reception with a strong program. Singers and a duet performed while Supt Kelder praised WCTU reforms and World Prohibition efforts. Major Sirvene Appoints Greene Attorney General for State

Major James A. Greene, former Livingston county prosecutor and judge advocate, has been appointed by Governor Groesbeck as attorney general to lead the state food and drug department prosecutions for violations of the prohibitions law. Greene succeeds the late Lee Pryor and brings extensive legal and wartime service, including time as city attorney and judge advocate in the 86th division.

Roosevelt Memorial pledge drive in Gratiot County

A Roosevelt Memorial pledge drive is underway in Gratiot County during Memorial Week. An organizing meeting elected Alf Crawford as permanent chairman and treasurer, with M N McCall as secretary. Subscriptions are voluntary, aiming to raise 1700 dollars to honor Roosevelt. Pledges may be made at Alma banks or local drug stores.

Boy killed last night by Pere Marquette train

Homer Fadden of this city was run over by a Pere Marquette train last night. The incident occurred near the railroad crossing, authorities reported no further details available at this time.

Death on Pere Marquette Tracks Claims Young Pedestrian

Homer Paddes ten year old son of Mr and Mrs Fred Fadden residing at the corner of Stour and Center streets in Alma is killed instantly last evening when run over by a moving freight train on the Pere Marquette line near Mehigah Sugar company. He and a companion were attempting a railroad shortcut to save time when the accident occurred. The boy dropped some bills which wind blew under the cars and, while trying to retrieve them, crawled under the moving engine and was caught as the train began to move. His companion fled but the train moved on and the body was severed. A coroner's jury will meet today in the office of Justice D Z Johnson.

Two Automobiles Stolen With One Found Burning In Pompeii

Two cars were stolen in recent days. A Heiscoe car from the Schick feed barn Tuesday night was driven south then into Aiteh near Pompeii where it caught fire and burned. A Ford from the D. W. Robinson store in front of Superior street was taken last night and found in a ditch two miles west of Stanton about three hours later. Police are still seeking the thieves.

Turn Back Clock as Daylight Saving Ends Saturday

One hour past midnight on Saturday night, clocks nationwide will be set back one hour signaling the daylight saving law ceasing to operate and going into disregard. This marks the end of daylight saving time and the return to standard hours.
