Alma faces a severe winter housing shortage as over a hundred Northern Wheel workers and hundreds more from allied plants seek homes before spring. A local committee studies building organizations to fund and launch a city housing project, with stock subscriptions and company plans offering low monthly payments. The Lyman Howe Travel Festival and Gratiot Y M C A committee meetings are also reported in upcoming city events.
Alma High School faced a heavy defeat at Owosso High as Owosso rolled to a large score after a brisk start. Alma opened with a 50 yard kickoff return but turnovers and weak defense let Owosso dominate both halves. Alma struggled after the first quarter, with few effective passes and little sustained offense.
The Maroon and Cream football team of Alma College prepares for a Davis Held Saturday afternoon game against Ferris Institute. Henry H. Soule, Alma contractor with longtime credits to Repatil Motor, Libby, McNeill Libby, and current work for Northern Wheel and Standard Oil, announced that site work has begun on the Bellstrom Motors plant between St La and Alma on Michigan Avenue. The 60 by 404 foot brick and concrete one story building will resemble the Northern Wheel main house, with foundations expected in place within a week and completion by early next year for start of large scale operations. An executive committee led by Maurice Bollstrom and Fred C. Ohland handles building plans and management.

Gilbert Geneste, proprietor of this city, married Roma Stockwell formerly of North Star, Tuesday evening after securing license from the county clerk. The ceremony took place in Alma as Stockwell waited. guests were surprised when Geneste announced the marriage and passed out cigars.
