Wright House 3 To Be Remodeled And Expanded

A new three story addition will be constructed facing State Street as part of the remodeling of Wright House 3. The project will increase usable space and modernize exterior elements while preserving the structure's footprint.

Plans by Maxon and Baschman to remodel the Wright House and add a large three story extension. Total project cost about 90 000 dollars with 50 000 remodeling and 40 000 for the new wing. Work to begin in spring with 140 rooms and modern baths.

Alma Sugar Plant To Open Fall Run In October

The Alma plant of Michigan Sugar plans a mid October start to a three month fall run. About 16 000 acres of beets were contracted, but weather and other losses reduce actual harvest below contracted area. Yields expected to be medium to heavier with recent rains boosting growth while sugar percentage remains steady. The plant has undergone extensive summer repairs, boosting capacity and improving heat sheds. About 350 workers will join the payroll during the run, with thousands spent in Alma and nearby as farmers are paid for beets. Field men have already brought nearly thirty men to Alma seeking work.

Legion Meeting for Alma Post Enrolment Charter

The Alma post of the American Legion has received its charter from National headquarters. An ex-service men’s meeting will be held at the high school Friday October 3 at 8:00 p.m. to enroll under the charter. The Legion is nonpartisan and nonpolitical, aiming to secure justice and fair play for ex-service men. All former service men are urged to attend.

Churches of City Set Rally Day For Alma Citizens

Alma churches unite for Rally Day on October 6 to invite all residents to join a church and renew regular attendance. The Alma Federation of Churches coordinates the effort with a city wide goal and a slogan Every citizen in some church today to strengthen town morale and civic virtue. Alma College Seeks Endowment Boost From New Era Drive

Alma College President H M Crooks announced a pledge of about 50000 from the General Board of Education of the Presbyterian Church toward a 250000 endowment goal. The New Era movement plans to provide about two million for college endowments over five years, requiring the college to raise its portion by March 1921.

Field Named Athletic Director at Albion College

Paul Field, famed as The had been mined for the place, will head Albion College athletics after Alma College. He previously joined Alma early this spring to coach the baseball team, and his appointment follows Albion’s decision to transfer control of athletics to the Methodial college. Teachers Institute a Big Success in Alma

The Gratiot County Teachers Institute held in Alma over yesterday and today inspired attendees. Sessions opened at the high school with Supt. E Ey gell of Holland guiding the program. Dr Pearson of the Department of Public Instruction urged strong training and better pay to sustain teaching as a noble profession. A second note highlighted need for a Department of Education and a Cabinet Secretary. An afternoon organ recital and talks at the Presbyterian church followed, with two hundred thirty enrolled and praise for the event. Alma College seeks 5000 dollar athletics fund drive
