Educational campaign starts in Alma Chamber drive

The Alma Chamber of Commerce begins a three week educational campaign with meetings at the high school auditorium. H Bierce will speak Friday evening and Col Gansser Tuesday, with sermons, farmer day, and a civic conference planned to boost the chamber’s work.

Restrained ruling on sugar plants dumping in Pine River

Judge grants restraining order against St. Louis and Alma Sugar companies for discharging sewage into Pine River. State fish and health departments warn of 1,000,000 gallons daily pollution that killed thousands of fish. Hearing returnable November 26. Nearby streams show similar pollution effects. Conference near Grand Rapids draws seventy attendees

The Older Boys' Conference hosted in Grand Rapids this week under YMCA sponsorship drew nearly seventy attendees. Notable speakers include Syms Harold Hough A G Ruebel and E T Colton with Michigan State University contributors. A large athletic program and special musical acts were planned, with Gratiot County sending its largest delegation in history. A home wedding occurred November 10 as Miss Bernice Swot wed Orie Koehler, with post ceremony plans for Akron Ohio.

Miss Roeber Dead Former Manitowoc Woman Dies in Alma

Miss Emma T. Roeber, formerly of Manitowoc Wisconsin, died Tuesday at her sister Mrs. Curi s Brown's home 314 Gratiot Avenue Alma after weeks of heart trouble. Short services were held Wednesday at 2 30 p m Rev J Frank Jackson officiating. The body was moved to Manitowoc Thursday for burial. She was born in Manitowoc and moved after a serious operation at Mayo Brothers Hospital Rochester Minnesota four years ago. She leaves brothers William Milwaukee Chas Charlevoix and sister Mrs Curis Brown Alma.
